When I read stuff, I follow a lot of links. One of them went into area I don’t normally go, the “other” side of some of my political beliefs. I find it interesting what this person had to say about comics and sexuality. I think my position is pretty obvious on these topics, of course. I just wish there were more bi-sexual people out there in comics, but then again, comics are too damn expensive these days.

I think everyone has the right to their opinions. And everyone has the right to post them on the Internet, print them on paper, or even put them on television. My problem is that I don’t seem to be able to understand why people feel that there is a moral wrong in having a wrong sexuality, or the wrong skin color, or even the wrong religion. The whole thing about 9/11, maybe even one of the underlying ideals of this fight in Iraq, the FBI crackdown on porn, it all seems to come down to someone thinking someone else is wrong.

Religious wars are started because each side seems to think the other is “wrong” or “evil”. There are wars about sexuality just as much as ones about religion. People are attacked, harrassed, put in prison, or even killed because they are transgender, like rubbing cocks, prefer latex, or something other than normal.

I’ve tried very hard to understand someone who has the ability to exclude an entire category of people. Some of my writing is my attempts to understand it, but I’ve failed. I simply don’t understand enough to even create a character based on it. Some are easier, like I can create straight and gay people now, people who honestly don’t find both genders appeal. I can create people who only prefer a certain type of man or woman, or actually doesn’t think the entire human race is a beautiful creation, every single man, woman, and child (and not in a sexual terms). But, even then, I don’t have characters are really “against” someone. I struggle with creating and even writing for a character who hates gays, or hates black people, or hates everything that they aren’t. Interestingly, I also can’t write politically correct people either.

I’m trying, mainly because I see it as a blind spot in my writing. One thing I noticed with writers is that most of their characters all have the same blind spot. It takes a certain amount of… mental flexibility to create a positive gay character when you are straight, or to create a conservative when you are liberal. The key part is “positive.” One thing I read was that men have an easier time creating bitches in writing while women have an easier time with bastards. I don’t know if that is true, I just have trouble with bitches and bastards in general.

Well, this kind of rambled on in a different direction than I was planning. :) Opinions and feedback are always appreciated.
