November 20, 2007: Transgender Day of Rememberance

I’m not transgendered, but it isn’t that far off of what I [i:n24s2x02]could[/i:n24s2x02] have been. If you listen to me enough, its pretty obvious that I do show some gender identity issues (i.e. my preference for having no gender or a switch). Two years ago, I was reading Venus Envy and they put up this strip about the Day of Remembered, the day to remember everyone who was killed because of hate crimes against transgendered. Not only those who are transgendered, but those around them that are drawn into a conflict of opinion. It’s one of those things that just stuck with me and I’ve made a mention of it every year.

So, think about the lives that are ruined because people attack transgendered people because they are different, or what something else. Remember that everyone has a choice in life, and not to harm them for the choices they make that you don’t agree with. Tomorrow, just remember, please?

Yeah, but the inertia of thought takes a lot to change direction. Generations actually, in a country this big. But, education and awareness are the first two things that start to happen to make a change. Same thing when we started accepting blacks and later when we started accepting gays. I know it won’t happen in my generation, but I can hope that it happens in later ones.
