Found an interesting site that is trying to show the extent of statory rape laws and how they don’t really solve the answer. It looks pretty good, from the quick browse I did.

And somewhat sane descriptions of sex in Canada with younger folks.

It just happens to be a crime that I think is being used as a shield and one I don’t agree with the implementation. Too many things are being done on the Internet “to protect the children”. I think there is an age of consent but I happen to feel it should be lower given our attitudes and how much we force our children to grow up.

I think there are mature 15 year olds and there are 21 year olds who really should have a keeper. Now, the number of mature 15 year olds is still well into the fifth standard derivative. And the 21 year olds who need more maturity make up a large percentage, but I think that is simply a problem of having a “magic age” where children are suddenly sexually mature.

My major complaint is handling the 13-16 range. Its that 3 year period that is really rough on everyone, but watching people getting felony arrests for distributing pornography of THEMSELVES on their cell phone is kind of stupid. But, its to “save the children”.

The way the law works, even if they have a fake ID and show it, you are still guilty.

And, the key part is, statutory rape REQUIRES consent. Both parties have to want it. It just says one of them isn’t capable of giving consent because they are young. But, I think if you are faking your age to have sex, you are consenting, but it opens up a lot of abuse that way also. But, yeah, the thing about SR is that it is usally the case is brought on by parents or the government, not by the two people actually fucking.
