Movie: A Serbian Film

There are very few things that hit my limits when it comes to sex and violence. Even less that hit an emotional limit instead of a purely logical one. Actually, I can’t think of too many, but I finally saw A Serbian Film and I finally hit something that actually bothered me. Which is amazing, simply because I’m 35 and I don’t hit them. This was also an emotional one, something that disturbed me, which is both a good thing and a real eye-opener.

The movie is amazing in story, but incredible violent. It tells of a downward descent that the second link does a far better job of describing. Remarkably, it didn’t hit the “real” for me, simply because of the characters were larger than life, impossible to be real. Though, it is definitely not a movie for der Wandersmann. Actually, I don’t think I know anyone I would recommend this movie, except for me.

What appealed to me is that I know the same images that show up in this movie. I’ve written about them, I’ve masturbated to scenes like this since I started when I was twelve. Some of the scenes, death during sex or the toothless bit, were all bits that have thrilled me for at least a day somewhere in the last 23 years since I started down the path I’m on. This movie hit many of them, but a few that I had to hit the fast-forward button. The twist at the end, the shocking horror, wasn’t a shock for me, but I thought the first ending was perfect and appropriate. The little 5 second bit at the end… hated it.

This isn’t a movie for anyone I know, but it is a movie I liked. It is definitely a horror and a movie where the director tried to see how far the rabbit hole went and I thought it did an amazing job. There were a few places that the director needed to be hit with a stick for going just a bit too far, but the spiral descent and the way everything tied up is leaving me thinking about the movie a week after I stopped watching it.
