Dec. 7th - Remembering Pearl Harbor

Lest we forget - Dec.7, 1941!

Well, the argument that we purposely provoked Japan into attacking (Oct. ultimatum) is generally accepted. The tragedy, or stupidity, is that we were unprepared at Pearl. That is the big comparison with 9/11 - all the intelligence was there, but not put together.

Those who understood the situation were desperate to go after Germany before it was too late. If Russia collapsed, it would be all over, and we would then face Germany alone in a few years. The isolationists did not get that - and were under the delusion the oceans would protect us.

Due to the isolationist feeling, we made the decision to provoke Japan into attacking us. It was necessary to be able to go after Germany.

That’s what makes Pearl Harbor so unfortunate - we definitely knew Japan was attacking that day.

Therefore we must always honor those who gave their lives - to save the world from [b:qco33mo0]Nazism[/b:qco33mo0].

And Lud … it’s not “Lest we NEVER forget”, it’s “Lest we forget”. “Lest” is the negative. Your words say “Lest we ever remember”. Sorry … a pedant to the core. [/quote]

I am humbled - good lesson in humility! Thanks! ;)
