Since my original thread seems to have been copted ...
… which is OK … no, really, it is … I figured I’d better start a new one. I’ve got a few more shots that seem to have worked out nicely, and I thought I’d post some of them here.
In order, they are: Lake Michigan, late afternoon der Fliegende Holländer (actually, the Milwaukee Schooner, [i:b724dzoz]Denis[/i:b724dzoz] (sic) [i:b724dzoz]Sullivan[/i:b724dzoz], hull-down Oak Creek sewage treatment plant (well, from a distance it doesn’t [u:b724dzoz]look[/u:b724dzoz] too bad) Clouds over Lake Michigan Clouds over Lake Michigan (OK, so I called the other one by the same title. So sue me.) Gulls doing gull stuff Only time

Yes, it is, but you have to take into account that you and I are prejudiced, living basically right next to it. Actually, almost any body of water (not artificial, like swimming pools) can grab me, having grown up next to one or another for most of my early years. My family home was on the St. Claire River, north of Detroit, and if I ever manage to get the conversions done, I have a ton of colour slides of the area that you’ll be subjected to. As a youngster of 6 8, I lived in a little town in New Jersey, on the Barnegat Bay and a hop, skip, and a jump from the Atlantic. Then California, and the Pacific, where I got to hear Veronica play her harmonica on the beach at Santa Monica. Then Chicago, and finally, Milwaukee and Oak Creek. Isabela wants to take me to Scotland and the lochs, so I guess the beat goes on.
So water’s in my blood, one might say, and a good thing, too … I’d clot ‘WAY too fast without it.
An article I found about my dad, in the Detroit Free Press, said that his work seemed to concentrate on those places where the water and the land came together, and that’s not too far off the mark. He did other things, of course, but it’s always cropping up. He was never far from it for long. And, though I’ve done painting and drawing and all that stuff, basically I’m a photographer, getting my taste and a lot of my Photoshop technique from him, while using a very different medium. The ever-changing quality of the Lake, or of any body of water, and the landscape, allows for infinite possibilities, and I’m always fascinated.

As an additional note …
When Clemmie and S2 came here for a visit, two summers ago, I think it was … They HAD to go down to the Lake, especially since Richard (whom they were visiting) lived, at that time, about four blocks from the park that runs along the shore there. Clemmie had never been out of Colorado, before (or such is my understanding), or at least never seen a really large body of water before … most lakes being relatively small things with surfaces measured in acres; the surface area of Lake Michigan is measures in square miles (22,000 +). The Great lakes are justifiably named, being the largest fresh water lakes in the world (an aside, here: If the Great Lakes were originally named by native Midwesterners, with their inborn tendencies to eschew superlatives, they might now be called the Pretty Big Lakes.), and most visitors from elsewhere find them difficult to comprehend and are quite often caught conflating them with the ocean. Clemmie was no exception, finding our big puddle to be more than a little unbelievable. I cannot say anything about S2’s impression because 1) he never told me, and 2) I find it difficult to believe that a citizen of Mad City (which is how we Wisconsin folk refer to our capitol) would never have made it to the shore, if only on a daytrip.

I reckon it’s about time for some more … SOMEbody’s got to start some talk! These are since the last bunch was up, and since people asked, the moon picture was taken while I stood on tiptoes.
I dunno whether it’s visible to you folks or not, but I’m slowly picking up the technique for using this little beast. So far, having experience with only two didgies, I find their biggest drawback to be the fact that I have to go into the Manhattan Telephone Directory to adjust whatever I want to adjust. Sheeesh! Remember film cameras? You grabbed the thing that you wanted to adjust (or the control for it) and adjusted whatever it was. None of this business of finding the item (probably mis-named, as a further offence) in a “menu”, figuring out how to twiddle what needs twiddling, doing it, and making sure that you press “Enter” or its camera equivalent, or your efforts will have been for naught. THEN you can take your picture. But … oh, it’s tomorrow. Sigh!
In order, they are: “This must be the place” Sunset I cropped this one for use as a bookmark This is my favourite of this batch. Anyone have a romance novel they need a cover for? This is the same sunset, but looking the other way. —–I guess I’ll skip the Rendezvous pix for now … there’s a bunch of ‘em, but they’re kinda special-interest, hey. —– Well, that’s not China ‘crost the bay, but it IS dawn coming up like thunder. Isabela says it looks Biblical. I’m not sure what that means.

Born in Michigan (I’m known as Charlie Detroit in some redneck circles), lived on both … er, [u:3qmozjro]all three[/u:3qmozjro] coasts and a few odd places in between (and some of ‘em really were ODD!), Spent 20+ years in Chicago and wound up here, in Milwaukee … it ain’t too bad, but I gotta tell ya, it’s the squarest burg I’ve ever been in.
And now, I find that old scared-of-guns Michigan, old permit-to-purchase Michigan, has now got Concealed Carry! Pardon me while I faint! And our dippy Governor won’t sign a concealed-carry bill because he doesn’t want people shooting each other in the streets. I don’t know what he thinks they’re doing now. Oh, well … those of us who are Inner-Directed (as Reuel Denney would say) decide for ourselves what is the right thing to do, and we do it.
Kind of a long-winded answer, wasn’t it? I hope it answered your question.
As far as the lake being boring to look at, I think I know what you mean … those are the times when you have to turn your attention to the little things that happen around, in, and because of the lake … you know, bits of seaweed or driftwood, dead fish and birds (in a photo, the smell ain’t bad), or live birds, doing bird stuff, interesting stones and plants … whatever. Even boats (see pic) … the lake itself was basically a horizon-to-horizon repeat of the water you see in that pic, but that teeny little sailboat, ‘way out there, just made that bit into a piece of art … kinda minimalist, but hey, it works. Other times, when the clouds, the wind, and well, anything and everything are all working together to make bigger, more “surrounding” pictures, then you lift your eyes from the micro to the macro, and just take it all in (and for me, take it into my camera, too.).

Well, let’s see …
I’ll try to get the Ghost Readers (Well, SOMEbody’s reading these things!) (Uh, I think …) up to date here … not so much in the Readin’ Department, but in the Lookin’ at Pictures Department.
In posted order, these are:
The Moon (DUH!) I’m beginning to think that the bright streak at the bright edge is a true representation of a brightly-lit perspective, rather than an artifact of digitsation. I also am beginning to think I might be addicted to these moon shots. These are teeny little roses. Black-Eyed Susan. I dunno how she got the black eye. Another damn moon … well, the same one, really, but another picture of it. This is at the full, at exactly midnight. These li’l red flars have a kinda funny, “forced” looking colour to them. Or, at least, I think so. YAAAAAGH! Well, at least it’s on the wane. I rather like these partials more than the full moon, I think. The last two are two different treatments of the same shot … a sunset.
And that’s all for now.

Oh, yeah … notice the sun dogs in those cirrus clouds … interesting, I thought.

All kidding aside, folks, (Yeah, right!) I think that would probably be OK … if you’d prefer original images, so you (or whoever) could do the Photoshop work yourself, I can send you one.
And if you’re going top make a bunch of money with it, I want some.
Acknowledgement would be nice, too.

Best one I ever saw (and I must admit it was as much the “accompaniment” as the event itself) was the one that was concurrent with the Hale-Bopp comet (called “Hail. Bob!” by those sadly self-deluded San Diego cultists … that help to date it for you?).
Both were in the sky at the same time, and, wonder of wonders, Milwaukee experienced a clear, magnificent, star-spangled night. Wow!
Brings to mind the old Asimov novel title [i:quzrgc2h]The Stars, Like Dust[/i:quzrgc2h].

Damn, I seem to be doing a lot more talking lately, than posting pictures, which is what I set the thread up for.
So here are some more … (pictures, not talk) … with as little commentary as I can get away with:

OK, I guess I gotta say SOMEthing …
I dunno what that poiple stuff is; I swear I didn’t change the colour.
And I’m not acquainted at all with those spiky golf-ball things … I’ve never seen anything like them before.
I think those yella bugs are some species of shield-bug … I’ll have to wait until Isabela sees them; she knows shield bugs perty well. She knows lotsa stuff like that. I think it’s amazing. She’s even a lightning calculator, and enjoys tossing numbers around in her head. YAAAAAUGH!
The mourning dove just happened to be sitting there … I like them a lot. I did my best to bring up those colours without exaggerating them, or making them “fluorescent”.
The swan and cygnets were strictly targets of opportunity. I just happened to be there when they took their morning commute from one pond to the next.

Well, considering the underwhelming response to that last, I’m beginning to wonder whether the folks here want to see any more.
Time to chime in, yes or no? I can handle the lack of comments on specific postings, but it would be nice to know that I wasn’t posting things that aren’t wanted.
NEXT POST
Well, I guess I’m both a picture poster and a talking person … I know that I do tend to go on, sometimes at great length. I reckon you’re all lucky I can’t type, because if I could write with the speed and ease of someone good at typing, you’d all be crowded out of this forum. 1:1 IM conversations are about my limit, and even then I’m slow; chatrooms are a nightmare, at least for me. I think that I come close to qualifying for the appellation of “garrulous”. Well, at least I don’t make very many mistakes; I hit each key one at a time. Not that other people don’t, but the speed, and the difficulty of getting two hands to sort out their differences seems to lead to a certain amount of confusion. I tell Isabela that her two hands are having a race to the keys, but sometimes the wrong one wins.
Anyway, as long as I know someone (whose opinion I respect) is interested in seeing the images, I’ll keep putting them up. They’re my life, you know, or at least a large, important part of it, and I tend to think that OF COURSE, other people want to see them!
But, in my saner moments, I realise that they might not. No, really … they might not. I don’t know what’s the matter with them, but they might not.
Oh, and thanks, dear.

These are filmable? I always thought it was two (or more) people, sitting at two (or more) pooter terminals, reading stuff off a screen and typing stuff in. I can’t conceive of this being a fit subject for the screen, but I admit that I didn’t think too much of Warhol’s [i:1885w3xa]Henry[/i:1885w3xa], either.

Sounds good … the only game with dice I know is played without pencils … instead, we use cash money (remember cash money?). Only seldom do we need the pistols.
And another room full of players around the table is played with cards and coinage (just for score-keeping, of course), and Leinie’s Red or Evan Williams as a lubricant. It pays to know probability theory. And the pistols get very little use anymore, since we made a rule that if you shoot a guy, you have to pay his funeral expenses. It’s only fair.

OK, love; I THINK I understand … one question:
Is there any way of posting them [i:175z7f4g]en masse[/i:175z7f4g], rather than onemeal? (The spell-checker goes nuts over that one!) Sometimes I’ve got only one or two, but lots of times I’ve got a batch. (No that’s not a typo, LOL) It would be easier to post them in a bunch.
But thanks … I love the idea of a Gallery of my own; no porn, unfortunately (unless you’d like to come up for a visit … bring your birthday suit.), but just plain ol’ photography … as good as I can make it.
