The God Card
« on: June 05, 2008, 09:55:13 PM »

This bothers me. Whenever there is a battle conserning heavy issues, always, it comes down to what God says.

Advancements in Medison is stopped because of what God said. The reason there isn't a cure for many illneses yet is because people say that the stuff they have in mind are Immoral and not how god wants it to be.

Gay marrage. God hates gay people or God doesn't want two people of the same sex to be married.

and many other issues.

Look. I am not against God. I love him. I worship him. However, whenever an issue is brought up, it is always stopped by "The God Card."

What do you think? Do you think we should stop using the God Card so much so we can step back and get a better view fo things?

Again, I am not asking people to step away from God, I amd just saying, stop looking to the bible and look into your own brain for solutions sometimes.

Yep. I got a note from a Brasilian gal, and in it she said "Jesus? Who's this Jesus guy? Oh, yeah ... he's the one who hates everything and everybody. Gays, liberals, sex ..."

I think she's right ... personally, if I had a god like that, I'd fire him and look around for a replacement. Maybe the Dalai Lama, if I HAD to have a god.

The God card is the best reason to vote for religions to be banned.

Um. I'm not saying BAN religion.  I'm saying that we don't know what god wants exactly. The bible and other holy texts are said to be the word of God, but it was man that wrote it. I am just stating that one should think about how THEY feel about issues, not how God feels or how it is said He feels.

In my experiance, people are afraid of and/or unwilling to think on their own. Hence, they look to God for the answer to everything. Kinda sad in a way. I don't imagine God as someone very thrilled with the idea of Dogmatism.

Exactly. God gave us free will, but we rarely ever use it. We go with what other people think and act about things before going with either group.

If I can ever be said to pray, it's "Please preserve us from people who know what god wants."

Might have quoted it somewhere else already, but I love the quote:

A philosopher is someone who is searching blindfolded in a dark room for a black cat that isn't there.
A theologist is someone who is searching blindfolded in a dark room for a black cat that isn't there while crying "I see it".

Heh, those are good quotes. Yeah, I kind of see the "god card" as the same as "I said so" which means, "I can't explain it but I think so".

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't overused. Or at least know exactly in this day and age what God wants.

People who use God to push an agenda are taking his name in vain.  They might not even really be all that religious themselves, but people like that are just using the religion to look down their nose at other people.

The Pope is currently trying to play the God Card (and lesser folk are trying to play the Pope Card) to get this piece of sculpture banned.

I think it's hilarious!

I believe this little work of art is currently in The Netherlands, at the moment at the time. It's not much of an issue - judging from what I've read about it, people are angrier because of the thing it is said to advocate to do to animals (silly sentence for a silly thought), than because of the religious connotations. But then again, The Netherlands are the world's only country with an Animal Party represented in Parliament - even India doesn't have such a thing.

The Dutch are probably the most tolerant people in the world.
Unless you happen to be recognized as German in certain cities.
