In some ways, this is a rather disturbing event. A man pretended to be a female looking for sex on Craigs' List, then posted every single response on the web, including email addresess, pictures, and later conversations. In effect, he just made public people's sexuality fantasies and comments.
And he's pretty damn proud of himself too.
From one point of view, I'm sure he is using the various laws to his advantage and is planning on running with this until the fevor dies down. Basically, he is getting his 15 minutes of fame, one way or the other. While he claims it is an experiment, I really think it was a chance of laughing his ass off by making fun of others.
It also points out that once you send an email, you really should be careful about what you send. One reason I spend
so much effort to keep my own identity private, though I failed in some cases, is because of things like this. Of course, I don't send private information to people trolling for sex; in reality, I prefer to be only with friends I've known for years and are clean. It really points out that you should be careful.
A similiar thing was done by someone on World of Warcraft, same basic idea. So, it isn't that original idea.
What I have the most problem is that he intended to do it from the beginning. He actually set this up with the intent to hurt people, to make fun of them. Regardless of the legal situation, the laws, and everything else, he actually wanted to hurt these poeple. And he finds it amusing, as given by his posts.
I don't care about anything else. I don't care about people's preferences for sex, I found most of them mild to my own interests. I don't care that people were responding for a "want sex" ad on a list, mainly because I have no problem with people connecting to have sex. We have personal ads all over the place, in every newspaper for the same thing. There honestly, isn't anything wrong with that.
But, he hurt people. Willfully and purposefully. That mades me sad, both for the him and the people who support him.
