Govhealthit.comAnother frustrating sign of things that are happening. Basically the CDC wants to track everyone because they found out that 90+% would like to know if someone sick is on their plane or cruise boat. The percentages of people who want to give up their information for nasty things is going down since people don't feel the constant pressure of Bad Things
TM from our government.
Interestingly enough, I remember the TSA and over places wanting to collect this information too. So, I can't help feeling that it is another way of social engineering the public to believe that this is always a Good Thing
TM and that they would never, ever use it for their own purposes. Nope, not like the PATROIT act was apparently being used.
The problem with large databases, billions of people who fly ever year, is that sooner or later, someone is going to use it. Sooner or later, someone is going to break into the information and let it out or use it for their own purposes. Not unlike people who were removed from international agencies because they voted against the current administration (I remember the article, just not the link, I really need to build up a database of these things). Now, travel information might seem like a minor little detail, but collecting it is important for two things. One, it gets used to people giving more and more information to the government. This is important because you have to take small steps. Second, it can be used already. You can associate people with locations, with people, and build up a network (six degrees of separation) of relationships between people. That means that if someone you travelled with traveled with someone who ended up being a terroist, you'll be investigated because you were "close". Well, that is the potential.
I refuse to believe that the FBI, CIA, or other organizations won't get ahold of this information. Just as I don't believe that there will never be another witch hunt or red scare.
