Tsunami Scare
« on: February 28, 2010, 10:28:37 AM »

Well, yesterday was quite a day. While I was online early in the morning, sirens went off. Turned out to be a Tsunami warning, because of the tragedy in Chile.

I went with a friend down to Aiea Shopping center - it was packed. Living in a high area, we were safe, so we bought a bunch of junk food and batteries, in case the power went out. Filled water bottles (with tap water - I can spell Evian backwards), and watched TV.

I was really worried about friends in Hilo, and on Maui. Naturally, all the folks in inundation areas evacuated. Our channels basically showed the various beaches and harbors for eight straight hours !

There actually was a small series of waves, with the water rising and dropping at 20 minute intervals.

Amazingly, they gave no news of Chile at all. 8 damned hours of nothing. Now, there are two places that need lots of help.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'm feeling kind of ill this morning from eating too much chips & dip.

However, the folks in Chile need our help, along with Haiti!

Something is more real the closer it is to someone's life. So, the news get obsessed with showing a tsunami hitting and pay less attention about the damage already done. Sad, really, but they know their audience.

Tsunamis are a damn leftie scarecrow tactics aiming at pocketing honest godfearing citizens' hard-earned wages and spending them on terrorist cowcumber growing cumbersome cows! Goddammit!... - quit whining and stop believing in them! God save the Queen, and Jesus kill the president...

(Well, Jesus Franco, maybe...)

OK, I'm sounding like Perro now, or at least I'm trying to...

Only a half-assed Perro, though.  ??? ::) :P

Perhaps someone should organize sime kind of a Perro sound-alike-contest?

After the fashion of the Hemingway-lookalike-contests, ye'know...

Naughty naughty... *spank spank spank*

Who can afford to drink nowadays? Wine prices have been on the rise in Europe ever since the start of the global economic crisis, presumably at least partly because the demand is on the rise as well (I guess that answers my question - rich people becoming poor can afford to drink, at least during the process of becoming so - once again the rich are crowding out the poor) - we humans have built ourselves an unfair civilisation.

Anyone for a revolution?

Damn! You just made a WONDERFUL suggestion!
He did? Or was it me? *Keeping fingers crossed*

Okay - before complaining about booze prices in Europe, visit a Belgium supermarket and look in the beer section. Check out the doubles and triples! Then visit a French supermarket and check out the wine section. Then come to the U.S and compare. You folks have it made - booze wise!  :)

I'm leaving on vacation today - plan to drink a lot.  ;)

Heh, when my brother was in Sweden for a job, he made a lot of mention about how people really only bought booze for maybe three days in a month, basically payday and after that. But, all the bars are government own. He said the first time he went, just watching the sheer about of drinking, it really made him think about drinking.

I'll admit, though, drinking booze is kind of an obscure thing. I only drink while cooking and even then, maybe a quarter cup at the most of Bailey's. And I've cut that down to once every five years or so. :P
