The Roman Polanski Case
« on: November 12, 2009, 09:56:49 AM »

I just watched the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired

Since we have an international group here, I was wondering how folks felt. After all, he did rape a 13 year old girl, but then was double crossed by corrupt publicity hungry judge.

Now he is being held in Switzerland, at the age of 74, after over 30 years in exile.

I happen to believe in letting things go and let everyone heal those wounds. He spent thirty years basically avoiding his life because of this, that is punishment enough.

The only disagreement I have with that is that he did make an agreement to pay the girl for what he did. In that case, I think he should pay at least some of the money he owes her.

He's out on bail at present...

Prosecuting, or perhaps even persecuting him for the length of decades somehow doesn't sit right with me - his case always gets this little voice going in the back of my head (optical centre - so it can't really be the back, I know), stating with a twang: "Right folks, let's finish what the Nazis begun."

Not the most balanced of views, perhaps, but one can't help wondering whether the US prosecutors aren't in the least bit worried about the way their juxtaposition with their predecessors might reflect on them. ::)

I think that's the key point!  Can you use his traumatic past  (losing family to holocaust - and going through it himself, the brutal murder of a wife he dearly loved - and the loss of a child - and then being accused of doing it himself) to justify the drugging and rape of a 13 year old girl 8 years later?

Add all this to the fact he was let off easy, and fled anyway. However, the judge was corrupt. However, however - the judge was removed, and he was then asked to come back, and he wouldn't.

Not easy to judge????????????????????????????????
